England's Golf Coast
Stretching from Cheshire to Cumbria the coastline offers some of the greatest golfing challenges which is underlined by the 30th visit of the British Open to the Sefton coast when Royal Birkdale hosts the world renowned tournament in July.
The 2006 Open at Royal Liverpool on the Wirral coast  was hailed as “the best ever”, and the North West has three championship courses rating among the world  top 75.
Greg Norman, twice Open champion, reckoned the last nine holes at Hillside links the “best in Britain”.   Hillside, pictured above, is one of four North West courses which will stage the final qualifying rounds.
It is the near neighbour of Royal Birkdale whose clubhouse can be seen from Hillside’s 18th green (below).
